Circus House

Circus in Winter Reflection:

This story relects the hidden parts of marriage. It's an insight into yet another marriage in the circus. We looked at Wallace Porter's first, this one is not much happier. The viewpoint is mainly that of Mrs. Ford and it is because of that that we feel for her and see Colonel Ford as only a bitter old man. It's interesting how similiar the paintings are to their real lives. Both of them are reaching outside their house for something that they should be able to find within it. They reach for eachother in the bedroom much like Jennie seems to reach for the other gymnast on the east wall.
In the end Cathy Day describes how they come back together not truly seeing one another, just as Jennie and Wallace did earlier in the book.
