Jungle Goolah Boy
Circus in Winter Reflection:
This story is far different from any of the others which we have read. It's a compilation of letters to and from different people which tell a story through 5 generations of a family.
The misspellings in some of the letters add to the feel of the characters as far as their race, education, and age.
The main connection in all of the letters is the slave named August. The story starts with him and ends 5 generations later with Sugachurch. The story shows that once the circus gets in your blood it always stays there.
The ending is somewhat abrupt and surprising since his brother ends up being ashamed of him for doing exactly what other people on their family have done in the past.
